Why IUI?

In case of sperm motility issues or if the sperm is unable to make it to the egg, then intrauterine insemination would be the right choice.

With intercourse, the male partner’s sperm travels from the vagina to the cervix, to the uterus, and finally ends up in one of the fallopian tubes.

Remember that the timing matters. By the time sperm reaches the egg, ovulation should have happened and a mature egg should await the sperm to undergo fertilization. In cases with low sperm count, IUI enables the available sperm to reach the mature egg.

During ovulation mature eggs are released from the ovary for fertilization. In case of ovulatory issues, IUI coupled with ovulation-inducing treatment helps the egg reach the male’s sperm and facilitates fertilization. IUI can still be considered even if the couple plans to go for frozen sperm or donor sperm.

In all the above-mentioned conditions IUI is the suitable choice of treatment.

IUI has also considered in cases wherein the primary cause of infertility is unknown. IUI is a non-invasive procedure when compared to IVF and it also costs anywhere between INR 5,000 to INR 15,000, which is comparatively inexpensive. IUI is the primary method of choice for infertility treatments. Only in cases where IUI doesn’t work, the couple is advised to go for IVF.
