These drugs cause the body to release some hormones which encourages egg production and ovulation. There are several such drugs being prescribed some common types are –
\n\nClomiphene citrate – \n \n
Clomiphene citrate is the most common drug being prescribed which increases the production of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) to initiate ovulation and release of eggs. It is taken on the fifth day of the menstrual cycle and continues for five days.\n\n
Gonadotropins – \n\n
Gonadotropins stimulate the ovary to produce an egg which are FSH and LH. They provide additional hormones to produce ovulation and are tried when Clomiphene citrate is not effective. Typically, these injections are administered daily for 7-12 days.\n\n
Metformin hydrochloride – \n\n
Metformin hydrochloride is prescribed in women with poly cystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). This works by regulating the menstrual cycle in women with ovulation problems and it is taken thrice a day for about 60-90 days.\n\n
Bromocriptine – \n\n
Bromocriptine is used to encourage ovulation. It is being prescribed in women with hormonal imbalance caused by thyroid or pituitary gland or PCOS. It acts by reducing prolactin which is a hormone that suppresses ovulation. It is taken once a day for a few months till prescribed levels are being regulated to normal.\n
